Original oversized WW2 era M23 cutaway classroom trainer built to illustrate the M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) for instructional use. Designated Device 3-F-3 (M23) in U.S. training catalogs, these large-scale cutaways were produced so instructors could demonstrate the BAR’s internal components and cycle of operation to a full classroom. Rifle actually "functions" when bolt is cycled, demonstrating the open bolt working. Red paint to highlight areas of operation. 3 position selector, removable magazine has cutouts on right side as a cartridge / magazine spring viewer, removable muzzle break. Constructed with an oversized “wooden” (cast aluminum) stock and strategically exposed metal action components. Condition reflects long-term instructional service and storage, surface wear, classroom handling marks, and stable structural integrity, the is a dent in the upper left barrel and the charging handle is missing, stud present. Measures almost 8 feet in length (94 inches), weight is 52 lbs.
